THE EARTHQUAKES.
DULL, BOOMING SOUNDS. WELLINGTON’S SHOCK. By Telegraph—Press Association
Christchurch, last night. At a meeting of the Cheviot Relief Committee, it was reported that sixty applications for relief had been received. The applicants stated their losses amounted to £BOOO. It was decided to employ builders to help to assess the damage in each individual case, and to report at a meeting to be held next Saturday. The cases will then be dealt with on their merits, consistent with the money subscribed. A severe shock was felt at Cheviot at 3.09 a.m., and is reported to have been more severely felt at the stations north of Cheviot.
