BAND CONTEST

By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, last night. The forthcoming brass band contest to be held here next year promises to be a great success. Nineteen bands have been nominated, and sixteen entries received. This constitutes a record for New Zealand, and another three entries (Oamaru, Nelson, and Westport City) may be to hand by the incoming mail. The bands entered are : Granby Creek Brass Band (West Coast), Denniston (West Coast), Thames Navals, Waihi, Euahine Battalion, Masterton Municipal, Palmerston North, Petono, Wellington Garrison, Wanganui Garrison, Dunedin Navals, North East Valley (Dunedin), Gisbomo Brass, Taranaki Garrison. Already considerable interest is manifested in contest matters throughout the whole district, and with the inilux of visitors from other parts of the colony, a record gathering may bo expected during contest week.
