BIG TELESCOPE.

ENTERPRISE OF A WANGANUI SOCIETY. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wanganui, last night. The Wanganui Astronomical Society has cabled an order tor a big equatorial telescope by Calver. to be mounted on an elevated site in the centre of the town granted by the Borough Council. The instrument has a diameter of twenty and a half inches, weighs three and a half tons, and has a battery of twelve eyepieces. It is driven by a powerful clock, j and it is believed will be the largest in the Australasian colonies, tho one at Melbourne Observatory excepted. The list price of the telescope ordered by the Wanganui Society is .£6OO.
