BAPTIST CONFERENCE.

MEETINGS A BRILLIANT SUCCESS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Nelson, last night. The Baptist Conference this morning adopted a comprehensive sehemo of church extension, and set up a committee to vigorously prosecute tho scheme. The Rev. Will. Boreham presented the report of the New Zealand Baptist newspaper. It showed an increase in circulation, and £lO profit on the year’s working. Tho election of officers resulted : Rev. F. Boreham, of Mosgiel, president; Rev. T. W. Adams, Greondale, vice-president; Rev. ,1. ,J. North, secretary'; Rev. A. Chidgey, treasurer. Committee: Revs. Dalicston (Wellington), Gray (Nelson), Dewdney (Wanganui), Clark (Auckland), Collins (l’onsonby), and Messrs Hoby and Driver. The Rev. R. S. Grey was appointed Union preacher, and tho Rev. F. Boreham was re-elected editor of the New Zealand Baptist. Tho Students’ Committee appointed arc tho Revs. Clark, Dalicston, North, Gray, and Mr Driver. Strong resolutions wero passed calling on the Government to set up a Royal Commission to inquire into the alleged degradation of the Maoris through the introduction of liquor into native territory. _• Resolutions were also passed dealing with tho gambling evil. The Assembly re affirmed its position in favor of Bible reading in schools, the resolution being carried, after discussion, by a majority of nearly 3 to 1. An invitation from tho Auckland Tabernacle for next year’s conference to be held there was accepted. In the evening a young people’s Jubilee meeting was held. Mr A. Hoby presided, Excellent addresses were delivered by the llev. Doko, of Christchurch, and Rev. Greeuhaugh. Tho Jubileo meetings have been from the first to last a brilliant success.
