THE VISITORS. By Telegraph—Presa Association—Copyright Melbourne, Nov. 15. Maelaron, referring to his Adelaide defeat, said it was a very poor beginning, and he felt it very much. There would ' bo a big chuckle in England. Still, ho felt suro it was a good batting team, i Tho Oval was Hooded by yesterday’s storm, and there aro doubts if the Victoria v. England match can begin today. THE MATCH AGAINST VICTORIAENGLISHMEN SHOW BETTER FORM. BUT ONLY SCORE 166 IN FIRST INNINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 10.66 p.m., Nov. 15. Melbourne, Nov. 10. The English cricketers began the second , match of the tour this afternoon, when they met the eleven representing Victoria. Rain had made the ground sodden, and for a time there was a doubt as to whether tho match could be commenced to-day, Tho game was postponed until half-past two in the afternoon, andtplay was then accordingly commenced, the weather for the remainder of the day being fine. Maelaren, having a slight attack of rheumatism, decided not to play in the match with Victoria. The scores made during the aftoru were as follows :
Worrall captained the Victorians, and winning the toss, gave the visitors the first chance of testing the quality of tho pitch. The wet wicket appeared to suit the Englishmen better than the fast Adelaide Oval. Altogether, the play was more interesting, and several displayed better form than in tho opening match. Jessop, who has a most unorthodox style,' made things lively, putting his score of 26 runs together in half-au-hour. Quaife, the not out man, went in fourth, and took no chances, his scoring being painfully slow. Jones, in the little time he stayed at the wickets, kept the field moving. His score included a fiver off McLeod. The wicket was cut up a good deal towards the {lose of the innings. The Victorians acquitted themselves well in the field. The bowling analysis was as follows : Saunders, !) for 61; McLeod, 5 for 75 ; Armstrong, 2 for 8 ; Laver, 0 for 18.
