BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Nelson, last night. The Baptist Jubilee Conference was occupied this morning with missionary business. The secretary, Mr H. Driver, read the annual report, which, on the motion of the Rev. J. Drake, was unanimously adopted. The report was unusually encouraging. Further converts wero baptised, two Nativo churches had been formed, a hospital had been built and opened, the medical mission work had proved most effective, one new missionary had been sent out, and the mission boat had taken many successful trips in the prosecution of evangelistic effort. The balance-sheet, presented by Mr A. Hoby, was equally satisfactory, tho year’s revenuo exceeding the expense by Dll. Both reports excited an interesting and useful discussion. The missionary luncheon which followed was very largely attended. At tho afternoon session Mr H. Driver was unanimously re-elected secretary, and Mr A. Hoby treasurer.
In the evening Rev. G. Greenhough, from England, delivered a missionary sermon of great power and eloquence to a large congregation. Mr Greenhough’s utterances have all been marked by singular force, and have been a feature of tho Conference.
