Total for four wickets... 170 The weather was warm, but much pleasanter than that of Saturday. Tue holiday and the expectancy of seeing the visitors batting were responsible for a very large attendance. Tho hopes as far as a display of batting was concerned, were sadly doomed to disappointment. With the exception of Jessop, who made things lively while at the wickets, play was cf a slower description, Gunn and Quaifc’s contributions being more marked for carefulness than brilliancy. Gunn’s score included one 've.
The boro of the day was ex-champion Gillen, who went on when the score was at two for 37, and but for the stand between Quaife and Jessop, the latter alone playing him with any freedom, he had the batsmen completely at his mercy. He bowled a splendid length, and with judgment throughout. He capsnred tho last four wickets in three overs for one run. The pitch was fast, which appeared to trouble the Englishmen sorely. It began to wear badly towards the close, tho ball getting up awkwardly. The spectators were treated to excellent and dashing cricket whilo Hill and Hack were partners with the bat.
