DISASTERS AT SEA.

Paris, Sept. 14. The heirs of Anthony Pollock, who was drowned at the time of the loss of the steamship Bourgogne, have instituted a competition for the purpose of deciding upon the best appliances to prevent collisions at sea and to save life after such a collision. For each class of appliances they have offered a prize of 810,000. Testing the various appliances submitted has bccu begun at Ilavro before an international jury, experiments being made daily with models. -There are 212 competitors.
