Santos-Dumont, the plucky young Brazilian inventor, with his second airship, huiir to replace the one wrecked some three months ago by collision with a building on which it fell, ascended from the Pare Prostatique, and easily rounded the Eiffel Tower at a height of Am metres, lie regained the point of departure in 1755 seconds. While returning, he encountered a strong wind. The Aero Club Committee decided that M. Dumont had failed to win the Deutseh price by -14 seconds. M. Deutseh personally considered that M. Dumont won. Crowds who witnessed the ascent showered flowers on M. Dumont.
