Alleged Theft.
At the l’oliee Court yesterday morning, before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M., a man named Bernard Anderson was charged with the theft of the sum of the property of ,L C. Chadwick, of Waimata. The accused was remanded until this afternoon, tin Wednesday the informant Chadwick, who is employed on a bushfelling contract, came to town and reported that his tent at Mr Holden's property. Waimata Valley, had been entered and the sum of .£SO stolen. Enquiries were made and suspicion rested upon a man who had been at the camp some days previously, and who, it was ascertained, had gone out from town that morning. Enquiries made by the police elicited the fact that a man answering the description of the one suspected had left town in the afternoon, and was evidently making in the direction of the Karaka. Sergeant Siudolls and Detective Nixon left town forthwith on his trail, and arriving at Te Karaka at 2 o'clock yesterday morning, they discovered their man at the hotel. The principal par: ot the money alleged to have been stolen has been recovered.
