DISCUSSION ON THE FEDERAJ TARIFF.

Wellington, last night. A caucus of the Government party was hold to-day, about iorty members being present. The official report supplied to the press by the whips states that it was decided that some thirty-three hills should he slaughtered. Discussion took place on the Federal Tariff as applied to the products and trade. The Premier stated that full particulars would be laid on the table. The imported products of Australia which would bo brought under special review would be refined sugar, fruits, timber, coal, Australian wines, oils, salts, and furniture. The Premier laid special stress on coal, sugar, fruits, and timber, and especially m respect to making a large concession in favor of sugar refined in the colony.

It was announced that there would bean amendment of the Workers’ Compensation for Accidents Act in the direction of all owing mortgages to remain secured, and the exemption of casual labor, and practically bringing the Act into line with the English Act.
