PERSONAL.

Mr A. F. Kennedy returned from Napier yesterday bv the Zealandia. Mr James Maefarlane, County Chairman, and Mr William Cooper arrived yesterday from Napier, having been present, at the Hawke’s Bay Show.

Mr Iloyte, travelling representative for Messrs Sharland and Co., and a wellknown .Auckland bowler is at present visiting Gisborne. Tho Rev. Canon Webb and Mrs Webb are to be tendered a garden party before leaving Gisborne. Miss Large, of Hawke’s Bay, a wellknown vocalist, is expected to arrive in Gisborne on Wednesday next, to take part in the grand concert of classical music, to bo given on Thursday evening next.

Messrs G. McLean, A. L. Beiierby, Dewing, and Eliott returned from Napier yesterday. The liev. .J. G. Paterson is to deliver a lecture on “ Seotish Life and Character,” in the Theatre Royal, on Friday evening next.

I Mr C. Tilliard Natusell arrived in Gisj borne yesterday, and will remain here for a few day s. ' Mr William Cooper returned from Napier yesterday morning. Mr and -Mrs W. D. J -ysnar returned from tiie South yesterday. Mr and Mrs J. \V. Whinray left for Auckland by the Zealandia yesterday. Mr and Mrs Arnold Wethcred left for the South yesterday on route for England. Mr J. J. Holland left for Auckland yesterday, but returns to Gisborne at the end of the week. The Rev. W. E. Gillum, and Mr E. Hartley, architect, of Auckland, proceed South next week to Oamaru, to inspect a new stone quarry there, which lias been favorably reported oil as suitable for the building ot St. Matthew’s new stone church.

The Baden-Powell casket, the gift of the r.ns of Auckland -to General Bade l-Poweil, in recognition of his iiravery in defence of Mafrking, was despatched to England, under the charge of Captain Nieol. of the Rangatira. Mr H. Hill, Inspector of Schools, arrived in Gi-borne yesterday morning, and goes on to Toi.-igo Bay this afternoon.

Among the passengers by the Te Anau for Napier yesterday was Mr J. Femvick, stevedore for the Tyser line at that port. Mr Fenwick, who has been in ill-health for some time past, has made a visit to the Hot Lakes distriet, taking a course of baths, and is now much improved in health.

Miss Ada. Deiroy, the famous terp-i----chorean artist, who is at present visitir g Gi-borne, has been engaged by Mr Williamson to appear in pantomime at Christmas in Melbourne.

Mr Frank O'Sullivan, advance agent for the Pollard Opera Company, arrived by the Zealandia yesterday for the purpose cr making arrangements for the Gisborne season.
