THE DISTRICT SC HEM I:

INAUGURAL MEETINGS.

Last evening, about thirty cricketers attended at the Masonic Hotel, where two meetings were held, with the object of forming clubs under the district scheme. Though neither meeting was largely attended, it was noticeable that those present were enthusiasts, and the spirit displayed at both spoke well for the success of the approaching season. THE UNITED CLUB. About fifteen players from the lvaiti and Wliataupoko districts met at 7.i!0. Mr W. Gibson, who was voted to the chair, explained the object of the meeting, and invited suggestions as to a suitable name for the Club.

After discussion, Mr H. E. Hill proposed ; “ That a Club be formed to represent lvaiti and Wliataupoko districts, to be called ‘ The United Cricket Club,’ and that the officers consist of a President, four Vice-Presidents, a Secretary and Treasurer, Captain, Deputy-Captain, and a General Management Committee of live players.” The motion was seconded by Mr G. Tattersull, and carried unanimously.

The following officers wore then elected: President, Mr W. Douglas Lysnar ; VicePresidents, Messrs R. N. Jones, A. W. Rees, W. Pettio, and C. P. Davies : captain, Mr W. Gibson ; vice-captain, Mr W. S. McCredie; secretary and treasurer, Mr 11. E. Hill: general committee, Messrs 11. Rowland, G. Tattcrsall, D. K. Porter, T. F. Crawford, and J. Ferris; selection committee, Messrs Gibson, A. S. Seymour, and Porter.

The following officers were elected for the Wliataupoko Thursday team : Captain, Mr A. 11. Hodge : vice-captain, Mr 11. Rowland ; selection committee, Messrs Hodge, Rowland, and Tattcrsall. The following officers were appointed for the lvaiti Thursday team ; Captain, Mr W. Gibson ; deputy-captain, Mr D. Porter; selection committee, captain, vicecaptain, and Mr Crawford.

Messrs Rowland and McCredie were appointed delegates to the Poverty Bay Cricket Association. On the motion of Mr Rowland, seconded by Mr Seymour, it was decided that the colors of the Club be red and black. Mr Rowland proposed,’and Mr McCredie seconded, that it be a recommendation to the Association that the subscription to the Club be fixed at 10s Od for senior members, and 5s for juniors.—Carried. It was decided to suggest that the opening day bo fixed for Thursday next, and that the Association bo asked to arrange a match, lvaiti and Wliataupoko v. City and West End, for that day. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting. CITY AND WEST END.

From fifteen to twenty gentlemen from the above districts attended the meeting for the purpose of forming a club under the district scheme. Mr R. Cole presided, and stated the object of the meeting. Mr J. Gumming was elected secretary for the West End Thursday team, and Mr Macdonald secretary of the City Thursday eleven and the City and West End combined Saturday team.' The election of delegates to the Association resulted as follows City, Mr R. Colo ; West End, Mr D. C. Hawkins. It was decided that tho Selection Committee consist of the Secretary and two members, one of the members to give place to the captain when elected.

The Selection Committee were ap- | pointed as follows : City, Messrs Colo, Neale, and tho Secretary ; West End, Messrs Hood, Andrews, and tho Secretary (Mr Gumming). The delegates to the Association were instructed to recommeud that the rate of subscription do not exceed 10s Gd, junior players to be admitted at 5s each. It was also decided to make a recommendation to the Association that a ground fen of Gd per player be collected at all matches. Messrs J. A. Harding (City) and Jas. Macfarbino (West End) were unanimously nominated as Vice-Presidents and x-ofiicio members of tho Poverty Bay Cricket Association. It was resolved that the City and West End colors be blue and black. After discussion it- was decided that the Association be requested to formally open the season next Thursday, 17th inst. The question of grounds was raised, Mr F. S. Des Barros kindly offering to drive players throughout tile season to To Ilapara at Gd a head return. It was decided to acquaint the Association of the offer. A vote c.f thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting.
