Nuhaka North Notes.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The unusually fiue weather which we have had all through September, broke up on Saturday last, when welcome showers set in which lasted until Monday morning. The change will be much appreciated all over the district, for the long spell of dry weather had already made its presence felt on the various small streams, many of which were lower than they usually are in the middle of summer. The rain will also have a beneficial effect upon the roads, that is if the harrows are used before the rough places become dry again. The surface men in the Wairoa County are making good progress with repairs to the road, and the attention of the Cook County Council should be called to the bad state of the road between Murewai and the Mahia Junction, there are several dangerous places on this road which must be attended to before the coach can run. A meeting of the Nuhaka Settlers’ Association has been called for Saturday to arrange matters with Captain Davidson re the Tongaroa making fortnightly trips to Waikokopu ; also the erection of a shed for the storage of produce, etc. A telegram was received from Captain Davidson to the effect that the Tongaroa would make her first trip to Waikokopu on Friday morning, October 4th. Some of the settlers intend to take advantage of the occasion and go to Napier. Docking has been the order of the day during the past week, and good percentages are reported.
