By Tolegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, last night. Long-service medals are to be issued to gaol warders who have served not less than fourteen years continuously without a black mark. Sergeant O’Grady, the “ father ” of the New Zealand police, who joined in 1861, is about to retire on a pension of 36120 9s. A case in which Annie Drake and Thomas McGovern, who were brought back from Auckland on a charge of having stolon furniture belonging to the former’s husband, was dropped by informant at the Police Court to-day. Tho gold exports for September were valued at 1)195,696, as against 36162,588 for September, 1900, and the silver (all from Auckland) at £5375, as against T 3479. The total for nine months was j£1,275,172, as against .£1,100,644. Christchurch, last night. At the Conciliation Board this morning the Cycle Workers’ Union dispute was heard. Mr Lowry (of Oats, Lowry and Co.) told the Board that if the demands of the union were granted more machines would be imported, and the principal firms would largely reduce the number of hands employed.
