AN OAMARU TRAGEDY.
A MINER TWICE ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. By Tolograph—Press Association. Oamaru, last night. A minor named Geo. T. Thorp, who resides at Livingstone, but whose wife and family live in Oamaru, came to town to-day and demanded to see his wife. Thorp was armed with a loaded revolver, and on going into the garden to see his wife she ran from him and ho followed, but he did not attempt to fire at her. The wife and daughter found refuge with tho neighbours, and the police were sent for. Qn the arrival of Constable Hunt, Thorp pointed the revolver at his own head and fired. The bullet penetrated the skull, but did not touch a vital part, and fatal consequences are not apprehended. Thorp had also prepared a dose of laudanum, and on finding that the bullet was not likely to prove fatal, asked for the laudanum, but did not get it. lie was taken to tho hospital. The bullet has lodged near the car,
