THE FLAX INDUSTRY.

ADVICE FROM THE PREMIER(SpeciaI to Times.) Wellington, last night. The Premier took advantage of the gathering of settlers at the opening of the Waikanae Bridge on Saturday, at the AVaikanie, to remind them specially of the possibilities of the flax industry. Despite past failures this industry was, lie said, of peculiar importance to them. Pie hoped now that that the prospects of this industry hadjbriglitened that tho owners of swampy, flax-growing land round about would think twice beforo destroying the flax. The same thing, ho added, would apply to tho Assets Board, of which he was a member. He saw that mistakes had been made in tho past, but the matter hud since received very careful consideration, with a view to remedying former errors.
