Fulton, the first case in the Arbitration Court under the Workers’ Compensation for Accidents Act, came before Judge Cooper and the assessors to-day. In this ease, the father and sister of William Smythe. a laborer, killed in a land-slip a! Xihotapu while working for Hugh Fuliou, contractor for the waterworks for the City Council, claimed .£4OO from Fulton's widow. Counsel announced that the claim had been settled this morning by payment of £2or> to claimants by the New Zealand Accident Insurance Company, which had Fulton’s risk on the contract.
