STARTLING DEFINITION OF “ TRAVELLER.”

George Payne, licensee of the Western Bote 1 , was to day charged with Sunday trading. It appeared that at eight o’clock on the evening of September Ist a fireman ■'from tlie Tarawora, which arrived in port shortly after noon, was given liquor, after having r-'ated that he was a traveller and had ju-t arrived from Lyttelton.
The Court informed the defendant that there w, re other points on which applicants i'.'i' refreshment should be questioned than whether they were more travel !i;;v. It visa startling proposition that tiie crew of a snip arriving on Sunday could be served with drink in the evening. •Judgment would be given in writing.
