WELLINGTON NEWS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Mr S. deckel, engineer of the Nelson Corporation, has been appointed engineer to the Petone Borough Council. The case of the potters and clay-workers was again before the Conciliation Board to-day, when, on the advice of the Chairman of the Board, who considered the union had not put its claims properly before the employers, it was agreed that both sides should withdraw the whole matter from the purview of the Board, in order that the parties may meet in conference. Later.—There were some lively passages between the parties to a dispute in the brick and tile-making trade, before the the Conciliation Board to-day. It transpired that employers had not been informed of any dispute being in existence until they were cited to appear before the Board. The employers protested against this sort of thing, and assorted that they would move in the Supreme Court to prevent a continuance of the case. Eventually the Union agreed to withdraw and confer with employers. The directors of the Wollington-Mana-watu Railway Company have decided to declare an interim dividend of three per cent for the half year just closed.
