An old man named Alfred William Reid fell in Wynyard street, Auckland, on Monday, and broke one of his legs.
It is estimated that the cost of diverting the railway line running through New Plymouth, so as to minimise the risk of fatal accidents at the present street crossings, will be about X'oO.OOO.

rose were playing on the sawdust at Aratapu lately, when Morris accidentally cut Ringrose across the left haudwith an "axe, severing the two middle fingers and severely injuring others. On September 14th Alexander McAulav, DO, living in Denison street, Woollahra, went to Sydney Hospital in a cab and walked into the casualty room, complaining of feeling ill. To an attendant who was standing by he expressed the opinion that he was dying, and, while the officer hurried away for a doctor, McAulay lay down on a couch. A minute later ho was dead, the cause of his death being heart disease.
The .Feilding Star states : —A ease of cruelty to an unfortunate bird has been reported. It appears that a Leghorn rooster had strayed on to a neighbor’s land. Some young persons caught it, painted it sea green, tied a kerosene tin to one of its wings, and turned it adrift on a newlv-ploughed field, where it was found in a state of extreme exhaustion by its irate owner.
