At the Supreme Court to-day the case of tohungaism against a Maori named Tokomari, who was charged with obtaining money under false pretences, with pretending to practice witchcraft, and with having committed rape on a Maori woman named Hera Taniwha, was heard, and a verdict of guiltv returned on the first two counts. Prisoner was remanded to allow the probation officer to report, r harles Maxwell, charged with wounding Mr T. S. Hewitt, at Wairoa, with intent to do grievous bodily harm, was found guilty, and vennuide i for a week to allow the probation officer to report.
