STORMS IN THE SOUTH.
AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Invercargill, last night.
The equinox is being marked by hard, varying wind and weather in this locality, with much electric disturbance, heavy seas and high tides in the straits. Hailstorms of vicious force have been common, and snow fell this morning all over the district. During a heavy fall at Colac Bay a rider who was caught iu it states that the hailstones were charged with electricity, or something of the naturo of St. Elmo’s f'n-o, tho horses’ oars and tho rider’s beard shining with a palo, phosphorescent glow. Sharp earthquake shocks were felt in the western district as far as Waiau on Sunday a little aftor cloven iu the forenoon.
