Old Time Diseases.

vTo the Editor of the Times.)

Sin.—Gisborne citizens may remember old Mackay, passed away years agone. He told me years ago that many deaths, even to desolate whole pah settlements, were of occasional recurrence in years past. The Maoris of that time said the evil came down from the hills, but as to the source or cause of course they were not scientifically astute enough to trace ; they were terribly alarmed at the devastation resulting from its awful visits. We are now being paid a similar attention by some evil genii; who can bring him to tho bar for condign punishment? We inherit the Maori home; we inherit all responsibilities.—l am, etc., Sosas.
