PUBLIC SCHOOL COURSE.
DEFERENCE TO ROMAN CATHOLIC
SCHOOLS.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
Auckland, last night.
The Chief Inspector wrote to the Education Board stating that in the great majority of Roman Catholic schools examine] by the Inspectors, very little work is done in some of the class subjects included in the public school course. This is especially true of science and history. The inspector suggests that the Board should point out tu the manager of the Roman Catholic schools that in future years Inspectors will not be able to grant passes in the .Standards, or indeed in any Standard, unless the courses of instruction in each of the class subjects conform to the programme set forth in tiie public school syllabus. Mr Lamb said that this was a most important matter ; the report showed that the children in the Roman Catholic schools were not receiving the instruction that children in primary schools were. It was decided to send a copy of tho Chief Inspector’s letter to the managers of the Roman Catholic schools.
