Morere Hot Springs.

(Wairoa Guardian.)

No apology, we maintain, is necessary for again introducing the subject of the Morere Hot Springs management. In fact, we intend to do so as often as opportunities present themselves, until the baths have been made fit for the use of all who may desire to test their curative properties. As a first instalment of coming changes, we learn that Mr T. E. Donne, Superintendent of Tourist and Health Resorts, takes charge of all such public resorts in the colony on September Ist, and his duties will no doubt include the superintendence of the Morere Springs. Mr J. S. Cooper, lessee of the hotel, has received a telegram from the Hon. J. Carroll, stating that everything is being attended to in connection with the needed improvements to the baths and that as soon ns the question was settled whether these springs would be managed by the Department of Lands or Tourists, work would be proceeded with on a satisfactory basis. No doubt Mr Donne will have charge, and we can say none too soon. When Mr Cooper went into the hotel, he understood that £SOO would be spent in improvements to tho baths straight away, but what has been done ? Practically nothing, except a little patching—indeed “ tinkering ” would be the more apt phrase. All this time, money has boon spent sending surveyors from time to time to survey tho site, and the only resultant policy appears to have been that of Taihoa. j The Government know what is wanted, and the money has been voted for the work. Why not start at once with the now baths and bath-houses, so as to be ready for tho coming season? As we pointed out, every season’s delay increases tho number of pooplo who make up their minds never again to go to Morere until at least a modicum of comfort is secured. Now wo trust no further delay will be permitted to ensue. We arc a longsuffering people, but our patience, with tho spirit of procrastination shown by tho Government, is well nigh exhausted.
