Christchurch, last night. Tho Canterbury and New South Wales
match was played to-day. The game was very uninteresting in tho first spell, during which Ayers scored a try for Canterbury. In tho second spell play was much faster,
the backs of both sides taking a hand. Phillips added two more tries for Canterbury, Rico converting one, and Shortland gained a try for New South Wales, See converting. Canterbury won by 11 points to 5.

The football match Hawke’s Bay v. Otago, was won by Hawke’s Bay by five points to three. Tho game was the most interesting of the series here, from a spectators’ point of view, being fast and open from start to finish. There was not
much science in some of the play, which was seramblv but The backs of tho visitors whacked the leather hard, and often regardless of consequences; they were rewarded, and strive as tho Otago players would they could not cross the line of tho visitors a second time.
