THE SENSATIONAL LIBEL CASE.
CROWDS ATTEND THE COURT. JUDGE FAVORS RICARDO.
RICARDO GETS £SOO DAMAGES.
By Telegraph—Tress Association—Copyright Brisbane, Aug. 22.
Intense interest has been taken in the Ricardo-Observer case. The Court was densely crowded throughout the seven davs of the trial.
The addresses of counsel and the Judge’s summing up occupied several hours. The Judge summed up strongly in favor of Ricardo. He said that on every other occasion throughout the campaign he had shown great bravery, and he was not likely to have shown the "white feather " when stuck at a fence. The weight of evidence was against his having uttered the words attributed to him on that occasion. The jury, after four hours' retirement, returned a verdict for plaintiff', awarding him £SOO damages, with costs.
