ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER.

THE DEATH OF MRS O’DOWD,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last nightAt the Supreme Court tho case against Dr. Wilkins, in connection with the death of Mrs O’Dowd, was partly held to-day. The charge was one of manslaughter. In view of the remarks on tho case made by Mr Justice Conolly in his charge to the Grand Jury a week ago, Mr J. It. Reed, who appeared for Ijr. Wilkins, did not submit argument against the admission as evidence of a statement made by Mrs O’Dowd to Dr. Lowe and her husband on the night before her death. He, however, intimated his objections to the admission of the statement, and His Honor intimated that he would admit the evidence, but before finally disposing of the ease he would give Mr Rood an opportunity to show reason why the case should bo reserved for tho decision of the Court of Appeal on this point.
