HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT.
AUCKLANDERS ASKING QUESTIONS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night,
At a meeting of the Charitable Aid Board Mr Stichbury commented upon the fact that tho returns from tho hospitals'of tho colony showed that there wore no less than 50 per cent, more deaths in the Auckland Hospital. As compared with Wellington, it was, he said, something dreadful to contemplate. The figures showed that during tho year 1494 patients were admitted to the Auckland Hospital, of whom 145 died, while at Wellington 1584 patients wore admitted, of which number only one died. The Wellington Hospital was evidently better managed. Mr Warren said that Auckland had more deaths owing to the number of chronic cases that reached the hospital from gumfields and bush mills. Mr Stichbury said he thought tho Inspector of Hospitals should pay more attention to the Auckland Hospital, and if there was anything wrong, give the Board the benefit of his advice.
The Christchurch Hospital Board wrote, advocating a central homo in each island for incurables and chronic cases not suited for hospital treatment, such homes to be under the control of the Government. Mr Gordon moved that a similar resolution be adopted by tho Auckland Board. This was agreed to.
