The House resumed at 2.30 p.m. The Presbyterian Church of New Zealand Bill, to make certain provisions in reference to tho Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland, and the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, respectively, and to define the rights in respect of the property of such churches, was read a second time. The rest of the afternoon was occupied in answering questions. The House roso at 5.30. EVENING SITTING. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. In Committee on the -Land for Settlement Act Amendment Bill, Captain Russell moved a new clause, providing, in the case of compulsory taking of land, for the allotment of 500 acres of first-class land for each child, 1000 acres of secondclass land for each child, and 2000 acres of pastoral land for each child. Sir Seddon strongly opposed the clause, on the ground that it would neutralise the wffiole effect of tho Land for Settlements Act.

An animated debate took place, covering tho whole question of tho land policy of tho Government. No finality had been arrived at when the Telegraph Offico closed at midnight.
