THE AUCKLAND SENSATION.
JESSICA NEUMEGAN MINNS. THE CHARGE OF MURDER, [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. At the Police Court to-day Jessica Ncumegan Minns, who made such sensational statements in connection with the Grand Hotel fire, was charged with tho murder of Leonora Johnston and others, who perished in the fire. The Court House was thronged with people. After hearing the evidence of several witnesses, the Coroner was called for the prosecution, but on Mr Tolc, who appeared for tho prosecution, intimating his intentention of handing in the depositions of the accused as evidence, Mr J. C. Martin, for the accused, objected, on tho ground that the statements were not voluntary, but had been extracted by moans of threats and force. Ultimately, on tho suggestion of the Bench, it was decided that authorities should be produced bearing on the point, and full argument will he heard to-morrow morning. The Court then adjourned.
