[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Mr Alfred Jackson, at one time manager of the Union Bank in Wellington, and more recently managing director for New Zealand, but long retired on a pension, died here yesterday. Christchurch, last night. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning Walter Brewer was brought up again on a charge of using certain instruments on Bertha Margaret Light with intent to procure a miscarriage. At the conclusion of the evidence for the prosecution accused reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the Supremo Court, the same baii as before being allowed. Tho ease against Nellie Maud Brewer was dismissed.

Dunedin, last night. The schoolroom at Waihcmo was destroyed by fire this morning. The sum of T 206 has been collected b}the committee on behalf of widows and orphans of those men who perished in tho storm at the Shetland Isles, Tho money will bo remitted to tbe Home trustees of the general fund.
