LABOR DISPUTES.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Several cases of breach of award were before tho Arbitration Court this morning. In one of them R. D. Bongo, a butcher, was fined 41 for employing a nonunionist. Auckland, last night. The finding of the Conciliation Board in the timber trade dispute lias been filed. Tho mill-owners’ representatives have been unable so far to agree to accept the award, which meant an increase of 429 10s per week to. the Kauri Timber Company’s pay-sheet, in other mills ail increase of from 10 to 20 per cent., and country mills had to face a reduction of hours. Tho finding becomes binding unless either side appeals within one month.
LIVELY TIMES FOR THE BUTCHERS.
Bv Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Arbitration Court, which has been considering tho butchers’ award, to-day gave its decision in regard to cases in which judgment had been held over. In the case against Jesse Chittenden, charged with having employed ail assistant over 19 years of age at a wage less than that prescribed in the award of the Arbitration Court, the judgmont of the Court was that defendant pay an extra 7s Od which was demanded by the Union, with Court costs and witnesses’ expenses. In the case of Pollock and Gilkes, for employing boys, the Court also held that there had been a breach. There was also a breach of the award by Sparks and Pliilps, and in both eases the Court inflicted a moderate penalty of 10s, with Court costs and expenses of witnesses. Haines, whose ease was heard this morning, was in a somewhat different position, and he would have to pay a fine of 10s and Court costs, not witnesses’ expenses.
