DARING BURGLARY AT WELLINGTON.
SAFE OPENTD WITH DYNAMITE. OVEN a hundred pounds STOLEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Finlay, McLeod and Co.’s drapery store, Cuba street, was the scene of a daring burglary at an early hour this morning, dynamite having been used by the burglars to break open the safe. When the shop was opened at 8.30 a.m. a scene of chaos was discovered. The safe, which stood under the counter, had been dragged out and blown open, and the contents, amounting to d£lo-i, were missing. Of this sum Adi was in the form of cheques, the remainder being in silver, notes, and gold. Several articles of clothing have also been removed from the shop. A Chinese fruiterer, who lived next door, heard sounds as of breaking glass at about 3 a.m., but apparently took no notice of the occurrence.
