Home coming Soldiers.

(ILy Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. At a meeting of citizens today it was resolved tnat tlie returning troops of the Fourth and Fifth Contingents he welcomed on arrival at the wharf and afterwards entertained at luncheon. Dunedin, last night. The troopship Tagus, with the members of the Fourth and Fifth Contingents returning from South Africa, arrived outside the Heads at '1 p.m., and anchored. The (iovernment steamer Tutanekai went alongside. Dr. 1 Lodges, health officer, informed the Captain of the Tagus that the vessel would he boarded and inspected, and if all was well would be admitted to partique to-morrow afternoon. It is intended to tranship the Otago and Southland men to the Tutanekai and To Anau and take them down to the J>ltiff. ft was ascertained that Trooper A. Kendall, of Ilokianga, died this morning. The death is believed to he due to peritonitis. A list of those on hoard will not he available till to-morrow. Invercargill, last night. The weather is slowly clearing, and the glass is going up. The snow has again melted, and the prospects are reasonable for a good day on Friday for the demonstration. The billeting is practically full, Got) being provided for. The arrival of the Tagus at Port Chalmers removed the element of uncertainty that hampered the local committees. The contingents will probably leave there in the Te \nau and Tutanekai to-morrow night, arriving here at 11.G0 on ITidav.
