HUNT CLUB.
TIIE MEET AT TARUIIERU. 1 ACCIDENTS IN THE FIELD. Tukkk was an unusually largo attendance j at tho moot of the Poverty Bay Hunt Club I yesterday, a number of visitors who aro in town for the races being amongst those , present. The scone of the hunt was ut , Tarnheru, the hounds throwing off in tho paddock just beyond the Freezing Works. From that point the pack ran through , the Freezing Company’s property, and afterwards over Capt. Tucker’s estato. The going was very good, and tho hounds ran splendidly. The jumps wore fairly big, having been much improved by Mr Ilarlcy Evans. Air J. A. Harding was in charge, being splendidly mounted on Topthorno, who took his fences in good style. Air Alalone, the popular huntsman, was on Angus, and Afr Thornley Shcrratt (whip) on Waterfall. Air Hutchinson, on Boldy, took a prominent part iu tho run, in tho second check relieving Mr Harding of tho duties of Master. Air 11. Evans, who laid the drag, rodo Dorcon. who took her fences in a most proficient manner. Air Acland Hood was mounted on a fine - looking grey, a full brother to Quantoch, whilst Air C. Ormond was on Tatarua. Air O. Evans attracted a good deal of attention on Fergus, as also did Air J. Groom on a fine-looking creamy belonging to Air Shcrratt. Air D. Beere was present on a handsome black mare, which jumped like a deer, whilst Air Casey had a lino fencer in Success. Air J. AI. Gouldsmith was on Baldy, and kept his mount well to the front during both checks. Mr T. W. Baker was perfectly safe on Pirate, who went from tho jump as straight as an arrow. Air C. Dunlop was on Serenador, and Mr A. Dewing on Primrose. Mr E. Murphy rode a fine-looking bay with good jumping capabilities, whilst Mr J. R. Murphy was present on Wattletop, the latter looking really first-class. Air AI. .Murphy mailo tho pace very lively on Duckling, as also did Air O’Riley on Caitiff', the latter taking a lot of holding at some of the jumps. Air F. S. Dcsßarres on AVhangawhanga put a good deal of dash into the first check, but found the pace a bit too Hot in tho second. Air 8. Paviour on I’oggy, Air G. Reynolds on a handsome brown, and Air R. Reynolds also on a line brown, were early on the scene. Air A. Zachariah on Alafeking took his fences well. Air A.
Dcvery was on Colonel, and Mr T. Dcvery on a goodfiooking bay. Messrs J. and A. McLean were mounted on Peter and a shapely bay respectively. Others present were Messrs C. Beckett on Venus, .Rhodes on J.P., Mclntosh on a brown pony which jumped well, I). McKenzie on a dark brown, S. Sydney on a bay, It. Sherratt on a handsome chestnut, Pearson on Nutcracker, J. Shaw (Pakarae) on Ironclad, who proved a first-class hunter, and L. Tail on a black gelding. Several ladies were present, including Miss Reynolds on the brown gelding Macro, Mis's Mason on a chestnut gelding, and Miss Winnie Kennedy on Bluemoon.
The first check went oft' splendidly, hut unfortunately the second part of the run was somewhat marred by two serious accidents. Mr Thornlcy Sherratt, on Waterfall, was the first to coine to grief. His horse ran off from the rickcr into tho wire fence, and falling, heavily struck his rider. Mr Sherratt received a severe shaking, and also had his collar-bone broken. Ho was convoyed to his home at Pouparae in Mr Harley Ev&ns’ buggy, and was attended by Dr Williams. Miss .Reynolds, who was riding Haere, also had a nasty fall. Whilst going well with several others, Haere suddenly swerved aside at one of tho obstacles, and jumping, a post came down heavily. Miss Reynolds received a severe shaking, and also injured her shoulder. She was oonveyed to her home in Mr Bellamy’s buggy, and attonded to by Dr Hughes. Several other spills of a less serious nature also took place. There were a large number of persons present cm wheels, including Messrs Bellerby, Tancried, C. White, and C. R. Neil,
