A British railway guard stationed southwards of Ivroonstad quitted their blockhouse to intercept a Boer convoy crossing the railway. Other Boers occupied the blockhouse, and the British were between two fires. They took cover and defended their position until the arrival ot an armored train which emptied i : blockhouse. Six Boers were killed and 80 wounded. The remainder and their convoy were oapturod. A Blue Book has been issued dealing with a number of captured documents. One shows that Botha, in the address on March loth, told the burghers be bad informed Lord Kitchener they were fighting for what thoy would never surrender, their independence. He also complains about the incomplete restoration of Boer independence in 1881. In October Botha, in order to provent surrenders, threatened to confiscate tho property of surrenderors and burn their houses. In November tho statement was propagated that Franco was ready to land troops in South Africa, also that the Canadian and Australian troops were withdrawing. On May 10th Lord Kitchoncr, replying to Botha’s request to facilitate the despatch of envoys to Kruger, declared that he recognised only the Boer ollieors in tho field. Douche's commando has returned to Burkly Hast district. Since July Ist 40 Boors have been killed, 27 wounded, 182 captured ; 5512 waggons, 7000 cartridges, and many horses and cattle have been captured. Twenty-one Boors surrendered. Tho King confers South African medals on tho City Corporation and City Companies in recognition of the public spirit shown in raising Imperial voluntoers, Dtiflov, a Boer, escaped from Bermuda. On landing from the steamer at New York he was detained on the ground of being a pauper. Schalkburgher and Stcyn have issued fresh proclamations, promising tho eventual intervention of the Powers. Sc'oeepcr extorted money from tho Standard Bank at Murray burg. Duplossis, Minister of the Dutch Reformed Church at Bindley, implored the Moderator of the Synod of the Transvaal t and Orange River Churches to send mediators to Kitchener and the Boer leaders. Vienna, July 9. Kapuschn, a pro-Boer agitator in Vienna, has been sentenced to a yoar’s imprisonment for embezzling funds subscribed by sympathisers with the Boers.
