ALLEGED POLLUTION.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. At tho Police Court two settlers were charged with allowing foul matter to flow into the Ross Creek, thereby polluting the northern roservoir, from which the chief city water supply is obtained. Defendants, both of whom were in the place before the reservoir was thought of, one having lived in the place for over 40, and the other for over 50 years, have their eow byres and pig-styes on the slope of tho hill, which falls in the direction of the creek. Tho evidence did not show that tho drainage reached the creek, but the inference was that it made its way there. The Justices, while admitting tho hardship of the cases, said the law must be enforced as they found it. They convicted and imposed a fine of 10s in the first case, but agreed to delay fixing the penalty until Alonday, so that an appeal can be laid,
