Au important proposal was discussed at a meeting of the Thames Drainage Board. Ono member pointed out certain regulations of tho Board 'which it was maintained gave authority to sink and drain deep levels, provided two-thirds of tho contributing companies agreed. It was stated that the reconstruction of the Standard Exploration Company, which was interested in the Thamos-Hauraki Government subsidised pump, left insufficient capital for tho purpose, and that the Board had power to unwater the field. It was decided to give publicity to the regulation and ascertain the views of the companies interested. Aleanwhile tho Thamesllauraki pump, costing a hundred thousand pounds, and a Government subsidy of twenty-five thousand pounds, is lying idle, while the parent company reconstructs at Home.

A separate hospital district from-the Thames is advocated by tho Ohinemuri County. Delegates are proceeding to Wellington to endeavour to secure the passing of the necessary legislation. Proposals have boon submitted to the Agricultural and Labor Department for throwing open waste lands to indigent laborers seeking work, at a rate of pay to bo fixed, so that employment may be provided, and at the same time the Government waste lands in the colony may be rendered more valuable.
