A JUVENILE GANG.
COUNTERFEIT COINING,
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Invercargill, last night. For some weeks counterfeit silver coins have been in circulation. Last week the police got information that young men were congregating in a hut in the suburbs, and on a search being madoj rude appliances were found. Coins made of Babbitt metal had been cast in moulders of sand. Four young fellows were arrested and charged with coining, two with passing a base half-crown, and one with having counterfeit coin in his possession. All silver coins except threepenny bits had been crudely imitated, and hadit not been that the people here are not suspicious of that sort of fraud, it would have been | detected weeks ago. That the industry has been worked to some purpose is evident from the fact that one house detoeted three in one day. The young fellows come before the Court tomorrow. They are all resident in the vicinity of the hut*, or had been employed in a foundry, and therefore knew something of the modus operandi.
