THE ROYAL VISIT.
HEAVY BAIN IN WELLINGTON. (Special to Times.) Wellington, last night. Tho weather was beastly to-day. The rain held off for a short time while tho Duke presented medals to tho returned troopers. Then it poured. The fireworks display to have been given to-night was postponed till to-morrow. Medals were presented to Sergeant Langford, Corporal Bees, Troopers Richardson, Johnstone, Yardley and Cameron. There was no medal presented to Trooper Gregg, who belonged to Brabant’s Horse and fought in the seige of Wepener. Possibly the reason is the awaiting of returns from South Africa.
The Countess of Banfurly held an “ At Homo ” this afternoon, and the Government reception is taking placo to-night, tho Mayor (Mr Townley) and other Gisbornites being present. Among the City Bifles who formed portion of the guard of honor yesterday wero Troopers Kenny and Bait, former Gisbornites.
In addition to other spectators, I noticed Mrs Warren and J. Adair.
