FOOTBALL.
INTERPROVINCIAL MATCHES. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. Tho Otago Rugby Union decided to accept tho Wellington dates for the Interprovincial match, and suggested August 31st for the Canterbury match. MEETING OF RUGBY UNION.
The usual weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held last evoning, Mr 11. Maude presiding. Several new members were passed and added to the list of members of tho various clubs.
Tho question of the ball in connection with the Union was discussed, and strong committees of ladies and gentlemen were appointed to work it up. Messrs Maude and Hawkins were appointed a sub-com-mittee to interview Mr A. F. Kennedy with a view to obtaining the use of Messrs Williams and Kettle’s woolshed as a suitable place in which to hold the ball. It was decided to approach tho City Band and ask their assistance in regard to the musical portion of tho programmo. All other details in connection with the affair were fully gone into, and the various reports handed in gavo promise of a great success. In regard to tho communication from the Referees’ Association re starting
matches punctually, it was resold that a bell shall be rung promptly at 3 o’clock, which will warn playors to got ready and tho field to be cleared, and again at quarter-past 3 for tho match to start. This, it was generally thought, would in future ensuro a punctual start and the matches being played out in good time.
