ATTEMPTED MURDER—GUILT OF SHANAHAN.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wanganui, last night. At tho Supreme Court to-day a verdict, of guilty was returned against E. D. Smith, on a chargo of arson. In the caso against George Shanahan, alias Shannon, charged with tho attempted murder of Carolino Poters, tho jury returned a verdict of guilty on tho remaining couits of the indictment, doing grievous bodily harm, attempted rape, and indecont assault. Sentence in each case was deforred till to-morrow.
