TOLAGO NOTES.
(TIMES (JOIUiIISI'ONDUXT.)
Tms departure of the local Native contingent for Rotorua to take part in the reception of tho “ Jook ” caused quite a stir hero on Saturday last. Although the Taieri was not expected to arrive until midday, tho Maoris were early astir, and by nine o’clock were ready for embarkation.
Owing to the state of the tide, it was necessary to run the launch out of the river empty and take on the passengors from the north corner of the bay. After every ono was safely aboard tho Iranui, it was found that the Taieri had been delayed some two hours over her advertised time, and consequently would not' arrive here until two p.m.
Fortunately the sea was exceptionally smooth, so that the four hours on the launch was less disagreeable than it might otherwise have been.
A meeting of the Tolago Bay Bridge Petition Committee was hold in the Tolago Bay Hotel, on Saturday evening, when it was arranged to call a public meeting for the*lsth June, in order to discuss the bridge petition, and other matters of local interest. The member for the Riding will attend. A ball is to be held on Thursday evening, when, should the weather continue favorable, a good attendance is expected. Game is very scarce in the district this season, and no good bags have been obtained.
