FERRY STRIKE AT SYDNEY
. END OF THE STRIKE. COMPLETE VICTORY FOR THE - MEN. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, May 25. The masters and engineers of the Sydney Ferry Company’s steamers have struck, demanding recognition of their union and sixty hours’ work per week. They object to the presence of several nonunionists. The Company decline to agree to the hours or to interfere with the men not belonging to the union. Ferry traffic is hampered. Sydney, May 26. The ferry strike has ended. The firemen and deck hands came out in support of the engineers. Traffic throughout yesterday and part of to-day was greatly impeded. The residents of the waterside suburbs affected appealed to tho Stato Minister of Works, and some Government steamers were placed at tho disposal of the public in view of to-morrow’s functions. The Minister was also negotiating an emergency service. Tho Ferry Company thereupon agreed to a conference with the Master Engineers’ Association, which was held this afternoon, and resulted in ail the demands of the Association being accepted.
The Company agreed to officially recognise the Association, and that the working hours be a hundred per fortnight, payment over that time to be a shilling per hour. The ferries run as usual in the morning.
