g [Kl My attention lias been called to two letters in your issuo of to-day, ono signed Abstainer, tho other 1 A.' Abstainer puts tho saddlo on tho wrong horse. I expressed no opinion wlmtovor about tho use of stimulants in disease. I simply mentioned an of one medical .'entloman in England. Tnat experience was largoly commented on at the time in England. ' Abstainer would appear to he possessed of a similar animus to that we heard so much of on Monday night. I made no attack whatover on tho Hospital. I wrote simply in the spirit of an enquiry. Tho comments I had heard from a variety of sources caused me to consent to a 10quost made to mo that I would write. The letter of A. ought to satisfy those w.io Rave been in a state of uneasiness, and its publication will I hope do much good. The tenor of my letter was intended to enquire if too much was not being required in physical and mental strain on the staff in general. I once saw Dr Craig operate on a patient in an accidont case, and formed a high opinion oi his surgical kindness and ability. In Christchurch and Auckland I knew -there wore several honorary physicians attached, and wo all 3 know the saying as to the free horse. I am, etc., „ _ J. Peckover. May 21st, 1901.
