WOOL SALES CLOSES FIRMLY.

London, May 20. lhe wool sa.es have closed, with prices firm.

Received 10.2 p.m., May 21. The wool catalogued was 248,000 bales. There was sold to Home buyer? 114,000 * to Continental buyers, 90,000 to American buyers, 4,000. The quantity held over was 48,000 bales. Best merinos were ■keenly competed for throughout, at ton per cent above the March closing rates. Merinos, after advancing 5 to 74 per cent, wore a shade easier. Eaulties were at about the March price. Fine crossbreds were very firm at opening rates. Medium, suitable to Germany and America, was rathor firmer, while low grades wero unchanged. The Banginui clip fetched sjd.
