“ IB YOU WANT TO KNOW ASK Mlt SEDDON.” A SELFISH FEDERALIST. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, May 21. Mr Groom, of Queensland, moved tho Address-in-ltoply. He objected to raising Federal revenue by direct taxtation. Mr Crouch, of Victoria, who secondod the motion, declared for tho Monroe doctrine in the South Pacific. He referred to tho allusion by Mr Barton, who said, “ If You want to know about Fiji ask Mr Seddon.”
Mr Barton explained that the allusion was jocular, but Mr Crouch did not regard it so. Ho said he trusted that however friendly they' might be with New Zealand, they would not admit a second Commonwealth in tho Pacific.
Mr Beid claimed that there wore 57 revenue tariilists, 52 protectionists, and two doubtful in both Houses. 1
