VITICULTURE IN WAIKATO.
SUCCESS OF EXPERIMENTS,
[Special to Times.] Auckland, last night. Mr Ritchie, Secretary for Agriculture, states that he is highly gratified with the successful character of tho experiments in wine production made in the Waikato, justifying the extension of the industry and the enlargement of area to over throe acres. The Government also propose to remove the wattle plantations, and replace them with vines. Much land hitherto regarded as barren was found suitable for viticulture. Great results are expected from orchards in Henderson.
Mr Ritchie thinks that tho wine industry will become large and highly profitable, if proper methods are followed. His visit convinced him {hat more attention is being devoted to \ agriculture and horticulture than for many years past. On the whole, he is very much impressed with Auckland’s prospects in these branches.
